Mutual Aid Response – Structure Fire

At 6:08 AM this morning, the Sound Beach Fire Department responded on mutual aid to a reported structure fire on Vine Road in Rocky Point. 5A6-30 and Engine 9 responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, our crew was split into two teams. One team, working alongside Rocky Point’s Engine 61 crew, entered the residence and opened up the walls and ceiling in the first-floor kitchen to check for fire extension. A second team, led by Ex-Chief Drews, opened the exterior wall near two 100-pound propane cylinders, where the fire is believed to have originated before extending up the wall into the second floor and attic space.

Rocky Point firefighters operating on the second floor quickly extinguished the fire. Crews from Miller Place Fire Department assisted with searches and overhaul, while Brookhaven National Laboratory Fire Department provided the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT).

All units were back in service in under two hours.

This incident is another great example of why mutual aid is so important. The teamwork and coordination between neighboring departments helped bring this fire under control quickly and safely.

The preliminary cause of the fire appears to be a lightning strike.

Thank you to all of the responding departments for their professionalism and teamwork.

Interested in serving your community? The Sound Beach Fire Department is always looking for dedicated volunteers to join our team. Stop by the firehouse or send us a message to learn how you can make a difference.
