| Cold Weather Safety Tips from the Sound Beach Fire Department
As temperatures drop, the Sound Beach Fire Department would like to remind residents to take a few extra precautions to stay safe during cold weather:
• Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything combustible and never leave them unattended. • Ensure all heating equipment and chimneys are properly maintained and inspected. • Never use ovens, grills, or generators to heat your home. • Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and replace batteries as needed. • Keep fire hydrants clear of snow and ice. • Check on elderly neighbors and those who may need assistance during extreme cold. • Dress in layers and limit time outdoors during frigid temperatures.
Taking a few simple steps can help prevent fires, carbon monoxide emergencies, and cold-related injuries.
