On Saturday, May 9th, members of the traveled to the to participate in the annual Chuck Varese Vehicle Extrication Tournament, commonly known as the JOLT (Jaws Of Life Tournament).

The tournament honors the memory of firefighter Chuck Varese and brings together departments from across Long Island to train, compete, and share vehicle rescue techniques and knowledge. This year’s event featured more than 30 teams from approximately 17 different departments, all performing challenging rescue scenarios designed to test speed, teamwork, and skill.

Sound Beach was proud to send two teams of five firefighters to compete in the tournament. Both teams performed exceptionally well and advanced to the quarterfinals before being eliminated. In an impressive showing, there was less than one minute separating the final times of the two Sound Beach teams.

We are proud of all of our members who represented the department with professionalism, dedication, and teamwork throughout the day.
