On Sunday, March 15th at approximately 12:30 AM, the Sound Beach Fire Department was activated for a reported vehicle fire in a driveway on Echo Avenue.

The first Chief responding was advised that the vehicle was located near a detached garage and a fence. Upon arrival, the Chief reported the vehicle was fully involved in fire.

Engine 6, the first-due engine, stretched a hose line from the front bumper and began extinguishing the fire. During suppression operations, the vehicle’s fuel tank ruptured, causing gasoline to ignite. A second hose line was stretched by Engine 9, and foam was applied to safely complete extinguishment.

The fire was contained to the vehicle in the driveway, with minor damage reported to a nearby fence. No injuries were reported.

The scene was later turned over to the Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshal’s Office, which is investigating the cause of the fire.
