Serve Your Community as a Volunteer Firefighter or EMS Provider
The Sound Beach Fire Department is seeking dedicated volunteers to help protect and serve the community. If you have the passion and commitment to make a difference, we encourage you to apply.
Requirements to Join
To become a member of the Sound Beach Fire Department, you must:
Be a resident of Sound Beach, or live within the Rocky Point or Miller Place School Districts
Be over the age of 18
Pass a physical examination and background check
All required training and equipment are provided at no cost to you. All we ask for is your time and dedication.
Available Positions
Firefighter/EMS
As a Firefighter/EMS provider, you will:
Complete basic firefighting training
Respond to emergency calls for both fire and ambulance services
Have the opportunity to become an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician)
EMS Personnel
If you prefer not to be a firefighter but still want to serve, you can join as an EMS provider. As an EMS member, you will:
Focus on ambulance operations
Be required to obtain EMT certification within the probationary period

Junior Firefighter Program
For Ages 12 - 17
The Sound Beach Fire Department offers a Junior Firefighter Program to train and inspire future firefighters and EMS providers.
About the Program
Open to boys and girls ages 12-17
Meetings are on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of every month at 7:30 PM at the firehouse.
Provides hands-on training in firefighting and EMS operations
Includes participation in parades, competitions, and community events
Emphasizes that school, church, and family come first
The Junior Fire Department has been active since 1973 and helps fulfill community service requirements for Confirmation and graduation.
