By 1st. Assistant Chief John Drews On Saturday, October 2nd, members of the Sound Beach Fire Department traveled to our namesake, in Old Greenwich, Connecticut, to help celebrate their 100th Anniversary. The parade and trip to Connecticut was great. The Sound Beach (Ct.) Fire Department treated us like we were part of their own department. We were third in line of march behind them and Mt. Kisco N.Y., we paraded through town in the "low rent" section of town $300,000 plus homes where we were warmly greeted by the towns people. The total length of the parade was 1.5 miles. We had about 20 members in the line of march. Once the parade was over the whole department was invited into the officers club where we were treated to a full steak meal. Chief Bennett had to leave prior to the awards ceremony so 2nd. Asst. Chief John Strahm and I received, on behalf of our department, the Chiefs special award. We presented them with a plaque, from our department to theirs, in honor of their 100th anniversary. All had a good time and they are planning on coming to our parade next year. |
