On Saturday November 15, 2003 the Sound
Beach Fire Department went to the Rockland County Training Center to
participate in the Flashover training drill. In this exercise
the firefighters are in a metal container with a fire burning in it.
As the fire burns the temperature inside the container rises to
extremely high temperatures. These high temperatures super heat the
gasses inside the container to ignite in a ball of fire causing a
“flashover” The purpose of this is to show the signs of a flashover
and how proper ventilation of the gases as well as proper use of a
hose line can avoid a flashover from happening. |
