First 4 Wheel Drive Class A on the North Shore It was a beautiful Friday evening on July 7th, 2006, approximately 175 people were on hand to see Engine 6 or, 5A6-6 its Suffolk County radio designator, dedicated and christened. The festivities started with a short introduction at which point the Commissioners presented the Chief with a symbolic set of keys. That was followed by a special blessing by our Chaplain, Deacon Peter Shultz. After the blessing, Lieutenant Thomas Sternberg thanked the Commissioners and Chief for the new Engine and put a set of irons in the crew cab designating the truck ready for service and dedicated to the protection of the residents of Sound Beach. Lieutenant Sternberg then introduced the surprise guests who were selected by the company officers to christen the new engine: Ginny Drews, wife of the late John Drews, Jr, and Nick Calace, son of the late Charlie Calace. Both were Captains of Engine Company #2. Congratulations to Engine Company #2 on their new pumper and for an evening filled with fun. |
