Two SBFD teams place in the top five! 40 Long Island teams compete!
Three teams from the Sound Beach Fire Department competed in the annual Long Island Jaws of Life Tournament or JOLT competition on Sept. 25th at Fireman’s Park in Ridge. It was a long day but practice paid off. The competition simulates the extrication of a patient involved in a motor vehicle accident. There are required maneuvers that you must complete in a certain order. Teams are timed against another team that operates on the opposite side of the car, once the first team has completed their evolution. Our three teams have practiced every Monday since May for this tournament. Team 1 members, Phil Alaimo, John Curtin, Marc Francois, Jim Hart, Mike Rosasco and Larz Schwartz advanced to the final round of the tournament. Team 1 finished in overall 5th place. Team 2 members consisted of Sebastian D'Agati, John Drews, George Goodleaf, John Marino, Andy Itterly, and Keith Williams. Team 3 members, Darryl Blasberg, Tom LoConte, Joe LoConte, Jim Maire, John Strahm and Thomas Sternberg advanced to the final round of the tournament. Team 3 finished in overall 4th placed. If you didn’t get to see teams in action at the tournament in Ridge, come on down to the firehouse on October 24th. The Charlie Calace memorial JOLT tournament will be held at 11am, teams from Rocky Point, Port Jefferson and Miller Place have been invited. |
